Q: First congratulations on the success of Go Figure Lisa , What was the original concept behind it?
Coupled with fitness and bodybuilding, my other passion is photography. I love taking pics of anything! friends, family, animals, clients and especially bodybuilders on contest day. So I started the site about 10 years ago as an avenue to post up my pics that I would take at bodybuilding contests so that athletes can see themselves and for others to find out what happened and get viewers inspired to get in shape too.
From there I wanted to provide a place for the general public to get motivated to get fit and healthy, and so I incorporated nutrition and fitness articles and offered my personal training services. I’m also interested in other people and how they get motivated so I incorporated Wonder Woman and Hunk of the Month profiles to showcase other people’s talents in the fitness field. The site has evolved over the years but still has the core focus to inspire and motivate people while keeping up to date with bodybuilding news, information and of course photos!
Q: How many hits is the site getting on a weekly basis?
Have these numbers exceeded your goals and expectations or have you got a magic number in mind that you would like to achieve?
Over the years the site has grown and grown and thanks to a core group of Go Figure fans who’ve followed the site for a long time and helped spread the word. Probably we started out with about 2000 hits per month way back in the early days but in 2009, our average was around 1.5million hits per month. Sure that’s a huge number right? And that’s fantastic to see but what’s more important to me is that those people who visited me back in ‘the day’ are still visiting, and people who discovered Go Figure are coming back regularly which reassures me that the site is going in the right direction and they’re still motivated by what they see and read.
I feel the site still has plenty of legs (nice toned ones ha ha) and there is still huge potential to increase the hit count. I haven’t put a number on it but I don’t want to get obsessed with numbers as its not what drives me. What drives me is the need to keep pushing the boundaries, whether it be with technology or information so that my viewers keep coming back and they tell their friends to come too.
Q: What do you think Fitness15 will bring to the site?
Go Figure is renowned for being THE bodybuilding site in New Zealand. I know there are many people out there who are not necessarily bodybuilders but they come to Go Figure to see the amazing toned bodies and wished they could have that too.
And I think Fitness15 is a perfect way for them to get started so that’s why I’m looking forward to partnering with Linni and the Fitness 15 programme so that novice gym goers will have a starting point to their new bodies at Go Figure. I am hoping that once people see the amazing transitions and results posted at Go Figure from Fitness15, they’ll be inspired to get off the couch and begin their journeys from here.
Sometimes people are put off going hard out into bodybuilding diets as some are too extreme. I’ve checked out the Fitness15 principles and I think their approach is gentler and eases people into good healthy eating and training habits first which helps them stick to the plan. I know many people who’ve graduated Fitness15 after losing 10-15kg have taken the plunge and continued to compete in bodybuilding and have great chiseled bodies to show for it.
So I hope working with Linnie will help push more people above their comfort zones and into bodybuilding to find what their bodies can really look like!
Q: You are now a contributor for Australian Muscle magazine but do you prefer working with general weight loss clients or those wanting to compete?
MuscleMag was a nice reward for all the years I’ve worked in the bodybuilding industry. I didn’t go out to seek it but the opportunity came up and it was nice to get the recognition that I’m worthy. Afterall MuscleMag is a legendary publication in the international bodybuilding scene!
However, I do feel more rewarded working as a personal trainer where I help change people’s vision of themselves through fat loss or bodybuilding. I enjoy seeing them as they change their physical self, that their self esteem starts to grow too. Whether it be fat loss or bodybuilding, the principles for both are the same. They both need absolute focus in their diets, weight training and cardio. Its just has as hard to lose 5kg in a ‘normal’ person as it is for a 80kg person to lose 20kg. Its all hard but the rewards are amazing so I urge everyone to start doing something in 2010 and feel good about yourself, you’re worth it!!!!
Happy Training!
